From 31 May to 2 June 2022, SerNet will be hosting sambaXP for the 21st time – for the third time as a purely digital event. Another constant in this year's programme is a workshop by Stefan Kania. New is that the Samba expert and trainer will cover two topics at once: "Setting up GPOs with Samba" and "Disaster recovery of an Active Directory". A ticket for sambaXP is also free of charge this year, participation in the workshop can be booked independently. Tickets are available via the conference page at https://sambaxp.org.

Stefan Kania is, among other things, the author of the book "Samba 4: Das Handbuch für Administratoren" (Samba 4: The Manual for Administrators) and is a sought-after trainer for topics relating to Samba. He has been hosting the traditional workshop day for the sambaXP for many years. The participation in his workshop on 31 May 2022, 3:00 pm - 9:30 pm (CEST) costs 450.00 Euro.

Details about the contents of the workshop and everything needed for participation can also be found at https://sambaxp.org. It is also worth taking a look at the rest of the conference agenda: Numerous talks are planned for June, 1st & 2nd – each starting at 3 p.m. CEST – on topics such as "Samba in Containers & Kubernetes", Kerberos innovations, etc.

There will also be a number of presentations from the Samba team at SerNet GmbH:

  • Volker Lendecke: Symlink races for dummies and how to deal with them
  • Stefan Metzmacher: Kerberos/Authentication Updates in Samba
  • Björn Jacke: Installing and running Samba on AIX
  • Ralph Böhme: smbd, what's next?

Agenda for sambaXP 2022

The program for the 21st sambaXP from May 31 to June 2, 2022 is set. The Orga Committee has published the schedule for the event on the conference page at https://sambaxp.org. Tickets, which are free of charge, are also available there. The agenda is filled with exciting talks for developers and users.  Special thanks go to this year's sponsors GoogleMicrosoft and SerNet.

sambaXP will again be held purely virtually in 2022 in order to allow as many people as possible worldwide to participate. For this reason - and to take into account the different time zones - the presentations will each start at 3 pm (CEST).

The kick-off on May 31 belongs again to the traditional samba workshop by Stefan Kania. His tutorial (3 pm to 9:30 pm CEST) will cover the topics "Setting up GPOs with Samba" and "Disaster recovery of an Active Directory" at once. The actual conference will be opened by Jeremy Allison, chairman of sambaXP, and Ralph Böhme (team leader of SerNet's Samba team) on June 1st from 3 pm.

Talks from the Samba-Team at SerNet (as they appear in the program):

  • Volker Lendecke: Symlink races for dummies and how to deal with them
  • Stefan Metzmacher: Kerberos/Authentication Updates in Samba Stefan Metzmacher
  • Björn Jacke: Installing and running Samba on AIX
  • Ralph Böhme: smbd, what's next?

Detailed abstracts on all presentations can be found at https://sambaxp.org.

All talks for sambaXP 2022 welcome!

Update: Due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, the organising committee has decided to host the sambaXP 2022 again as a virtual event.

The call for papers for the 21st sambaXP has officially started! SerNet will host the annual meeting of the international samba community from May 31st to June 2nd 2022 at Hotel Freizeit In in Göttingen, Germany. Early Bird tickets for the conference are already available. Ticket bookings and more information about the CfP here: sambaxp.org.

Tickets for the conference (June 1 & 2, 2022) are available until February 28, 2022 at the early bird price of 399 Euro. After that, the regular price is 499 Euros. In addition, tutorials are being planned for May 31, about which we will provide information at a later date.

Nevertheless, we are continuously monitoring the situation and will re-decide if necessary depending on current developments.

Announcing sambaXP 2022

The SerNet organization team has set the date for sambaXP 2022. The event is scheduled for May 31st to June 2nd. It will be the 21st international Samba user and developer conference – and hopefully a chance to reunite in person again after a long time.

As for now, it is planned that the conference will again take place on site at the Hotel FreizeitIn in Göttingen, Germany. Updates on the sambaXP 2022 as well as the call for papers will be published on the conference website https://sambaxp.org.

The whole team looks forward to see everyone in Göttingen again.

Karolin Seeger opens sambaXP 2021

For the 20th time, sambaXP took place – and for the 2nd time, organizer SerNet hosted the event around the open source software Samba purely digitally. From May 4 to 6, 2021, participants from all over the world followed tutorials and a total of 24 presentations, and exchanged ideas remotely. The recordings are now online and can be viewed on the Samba YouTube channel. This year's sponsors again included Microsoft and Google.

The diverse program and interested attendees made for a rewarding event again in this 2nd Pandemic year. According to Nadine Dreymann, who is responsible for the organization of sambaXP on behalf of SerNet, 164 participants from 6 continents and a total of 30 countries registered for the virtual sambaXP. Dreymann also said, "Special thanks again to our sponsors Microsoft and Google, whose long-standing support contributes to the success." She states that Microsoft also added real value with the SMB Interoperability Lab (IO Lab), which was held in parallel with sambaXP for the first time.

Among the recordings of sambaXP 2021 are presentations by colleagues from SerNet's Samba team:

Additionally, the recording of the tutorial "Integrating SAMBA+ AIX into an existing AD domain" is available for watching (YouTube link: https://youtu.be/FwQpcnb-jTs). Björn Jacke, a long-time member of the international Samba team and SerNet's AIX expert, gives insights into SerNet's Samba packages for IBM's Unix operating system AIX.

For the coming year, Dreymann gives the outlook for a sambaXP 2022 at the traditional location in Göttingen: "We hope and very much look forward to the international Samba team and all interested parties meeting again in person, discussing with each other on site and also celebrating together."
