Meet the SAMBA+ Team

FrOSCon is one of the most important open-source conferences in the German-speaking world. It will take place on August 22 and 23, 2026 at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Sankt Augustin and offers a diverse program focusing on free software, Linux, and open technologies.

SerNet is featured in the conference program for the first time with two technical presentations: In “Opening Windows to a Wider World,” Volker Lendecke demonstrates how Samba has long since evolved beyond the traditional file server to become a central infrastructure component for Linux, BSD, and heterogeneous networks. Claudia Krell and Ralph Böhme from the Samba Foundation will present “Association Registry Instead of a Rewrite: How Samba Is Getting a New Foundation,” Claudia Krell and Ralph Böhme from the Samba Foundation will provide insights into the founding of the Samba Foundation and demonstrate how new organizational structures support the project’s long-term development.

The SNIA Developer Conference (SDC) is a renowned industry event for developers and experts in the field of storage technologies. It will take place again in Santa Clara, California, in September 2025 and offers in-depth technical sessions, practical insights, and networking opportunities around modern storage solutions.

The SAMBA+ team will be on site throughout the conference to discuss enterprise SMB solutions, open-source infrastructure, and the latest developments in the Samba ecosystem. The conference program also features four technical presentations by members of the SerNet Samba Team:

• Ralph Böhme – Samba Foundation Moves to Europe
• Volker Lendecke – Samba in 2026
• Ralph Böhme – SMB3 POSIX Extensions, from plumbing to flowing
• Stefan Metzmacher – New Transports in Samba: QUIC and SMBDirect, with High-Speed I/O via io_uring

The Storage Server Network (S2N) is one of the most important trade events for storage, server, and network technologies in the German-speaking world. The conference will take place on November 3 and 4, 2026, in Berlin and has been a regular fixture on the SerNet Samba team’s calendar for several years.

Volker Lendecke from the Samba team will be presenting a technical talk as part of the conference program. Titled “Samba 2026,” his presentation will provide an overview of current developments related to Samba, and he will be available on-site along with his colleagues for discussions and professional exchanges.
