This September, SAMBA+ will be joining again the SNIA Developer Conference (SDC) in Santa Clara, California, as a sponsor. From 28–30 September 2026, the conference will once again bring together storage technology professionals, open-source developers, and infrastructure experts to discuss the latest innovations in enterprise storage and file services.
The conference program features four presentations by members of the SerNet Samba Team, covering technical innovations as well as the future direction of the Samba project.
Conference Highlights
Ralph Böhme, SAMBA+ Teamlead at SerNet, will present "Samba Foundation Moves to Europe", explaining why the project's legal home has moved to Berlin and what this means for digital sovereignty, open source, SMB technologies, and the broader Samba community.
Volker Lendecke will provide an outlook on upcoming developments in "Samba in 2026", sharing insights into the project's current status and future direction.
In "SMB3 POSIX Extensions, from plumbing to flowing", Ralph Böhme will demonstrate how the now fully implemented SMB3 POSIX Extensions can be deployed in real-world Linux and Samba environments, and discuss the future of the protocol specification.
Stefan Metzmacher will present "New Transports in Samba: QUIC and SMBDirect, with High-Speed I/O via io_uring", highlighting the latest progress on native QUIC and SMBDirect support in Linux and Samba, with a focus on performance and upstream integration.
