Samba for SLES 10

For SLES 10 there are also packages provided by Novell in their maintenance web. They are not as up-to-date than the packages listed here. The Samba 3 packages for SLES10 we offer contain the prefix "samba3-" instead of samba..., different from the original SuSE naming style but you can update the original SuSE samba packages smoothly. Another reason for calling it samba3 is the fact that we will provide you with samba4 packages as soon as samba4 is stable enough to be run on production Samba servers.

Feature items:

  • Prefix "samba3-" so they cannot be updated by native update packages accidently.
  • Support for NTLM authentication also in Active Directory domains if security = domain ist used instead of security = ads.
  • Patches which we consider to be too experimental for production machines are being removed while other patches for problems that we encountered are being added.
  • Reliable init scripts. There are some Problem in the SuSE init scripts and related tools, which Novell did not fix. Daemons from plain SuSE packages (like some other services, too) are not reliably stopped and not reliably restarted, we do work around this problem in our packages
  • Additional debuginfo package provided for debugging purposes.
