SerNet is expanding the range of defined budgets that can be purchased directly via the SAMBA+ Shop: The Support Budget XL with a scope of 50 service hours and the Development Budget (10 hours) now complement the SAMBA+ portfolio. The contingents can be used directly after purchase - customers can thus benefit quickly and easily from SerNet's accumulated Samba know-how.

The Support Budget XL with 50 hours of services already includes a discount of 5% on SerNet's normal hourly rates. Up to four of these contingents can be purchased at once, which corresponds to 200 hours or 5 work weeks. This is ideal for more extensive projects!

With the Development Budget, you can take advantage of 10 hours of software development quickly and easily. With up to 4 budgets that can be purchased at once, development services of up to 40 hours (one working week) can be performed.

The smallest time unit for a support / development request is a quarter of an hour. Monthly account statements as well as a final statement guarantee a transparent overview. Further details on budgets are available on the SAMBA+ website or in the SAMBA+ Shop.

For the first time the Samba eXPerience 2020 will take place as a digital event. The 19th international conference around the OpenSource software Samba will be held from 26th - 28th May 2020 as an online event, sponsored by Google and Microsoft. The virtual participation is free of charge, registration is via https://sambaxp.org. Unfortunately, the planned IO-Lab has to be cancelled.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and the resulting travel and assembly restrictions, the organizing committee has decided to realize a digital edition of sambaXP this year. The speakers will give their presentations live from their desks, so that participants can follow the conference from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Compared to the usual event format, the online event offers even more flexibility: simply switch between tracks running in parallel or follow two presentations simultaneously - no problem at all. The event is also recorded and will be available online at a later date.

The traditional tutorial by Stefan Kania will also be held as a webinar on the day before the conference (Tuesday, 25 May 2020). This year's topic: "Clustering with CTDB". There will be a fee of 50 Euro for participation. Booking is also possible via https://sambaxp.org.

The sambaXP is the annual meeting of the international Samba team with developers, users, manufacturers and system houses from the Samba ecosystem, which has been held annually since 2002. Questions arising from the change in the event format, among other things, will be answered by the organizing committee on the conference website at https://sambaxp.org.

The organizing committee is also available to answer any questions at loc@remove-this.sambaXP.org.

SAMBA+ 4.12.2, 4.11.8 and 4.10.15 packages have just been released by SerNet. These are important security releases, please update affected systems as soon as possible. The packages are available for various SUSE and Red Hat platforms as well as for Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu.

The packages address the following issues:

  • CVE-2020-10700: Use-after-free in Samba AD DC LDAP Server with ASQ

A client combining the 'ASQ' and 'Paged Results' LDAP controls can cause a use-after-free in Samba's AD DC LDAP server.

  • CVE-2020-10704: LDAP Denial of Service (stack overflow) in Samba AD DC

A deeply nested filter in an un-authenticated LDAP search can exhaust the LDAP server's stack memory causing a SIGSEGV.

Also, SAMBA+ Long Term Support packages for the SAMBA+ LTS 4.9, 4.8 and 4.7 release series including the fix for CVE-2020-10704 are available now. These Samba versions are not affected by CVE-2020-10700.

SAMBA+ packages and all later versions are available as software subscription. They can be purchased at the SAMBA+ shop, detailed information and prices are listed at https://shop.samba.plus. The subscriptions are managed at our platform OPOSSO (https://oposso.samba.plus). Users can activate their subscriptions here and manage access credentials.
